2010 Annual Conference update
With just one month to go before the state conference being held in Launceston Tasmania NECA WA would like to remind all members that registrations must be received before Monday January 31. If you are unable to get it in to us before this date we will still accept registrations for the conference but NECA would like to advise members that accommodation at the Country Club is subject to availability.
Remember, the conference is a fully tax-deductable business expense, something attendees will be happy to note for your next business tax return.

Union Right of Entry Laws – What you Need to Know
A recent decision of the Federal Magistrates Court provides a timely reminder to members about the importance of being aware of their obligations in relation to union right of entry.

‘Flexible Working Arrangements’ – Be Aware
The National Employment Standards (“NES”), which provide 10 legislated minimum standards for all employees in the Federal system, commenced operation on 1 January 2010.
One of the key provisions of the NES gives employees the right to request a change

Federal or State Award? Which one applies to you?
NECA WA would like to remind members that the Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2010 came into effect on 1 January 2010 for all Federal-system employers. The State Award however still applies for all others.

Wage Rate Bulletin
The state Electrical Contracting Industry Award has recently been varied by the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission. An updated Wage Rate Bulletin has been prepared to reflect the variations and is now available to members. To view it please click here.

Reminder – website login details have changed
NECA would like to remind members that due to the launch of our new website your login details for the NECA website have changed and to access the site, please do
the following:
Username: Your new username will be your state initials plus your member number, e.g. WABBB001
Passwords: An initial password will be generated by the system. When you first enter the site, you will need to enter your username and select 'Forgot Password'.
Enter the email address we have on record for you. An email will be sent to the email with a randomly generated password. Once logged-in you can then edit your profile and change your password.

2010 Excellence Awards – start planning now
The 2010 Excellence and Apprentice Awards will be held on Friday 20 August 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. This year’s event will be a luncheon event rather than a dinner.
We would like to remind all members to start thinking of what projects you would like to nominate for this year’s awards. Past years have proven that forward planning makes the submission process much easier for all concerned, so now is a good time to start planning yours.
Requests for submissions will be sent out in the coming months with a cut-off date around mid-June.
Reminder - new AS 3008 released
A new edition of the AS/NZS 3008:2009 'Electrical installations - Selection of cables - Cables for alternating voltages up to and including 0.6/1 kV - Typical Australian installation conditions' was released on 26 October by SAI Global.
